Driving in Fog!

Q. I wanted to follow up on a question that I have been getting a lot lately… what are the best steps to take when driving in the fog. In our part of the country, it seems as if each morning has been inundated with fog… not something that we have to deal with on a regular basis.

A. Thank you for the question Janice.

When driving in fog, you are dealing with both reduced visibility and, many times, slippery conditions. Using the following four techniques will help reduce the risk of a motor-vehicle crash.

  • Reduce speed to match visibility. (At 30mph you travel 45 feet per second.)
  • Use front and rear defoggers and wipers for maximum visibility.
  • Lights On – low beam.
  • Signal your intentions early, alerting those around you of your next move.

These four simple steps can help create an environment and safety zone for your drivers.
